Here are some things I wish I knew when I started creating my mods folder, plus some common tips as well:
- I recommend you watch this video if you need help on how to download mods
- I recommend this video that shows you how to organize and clean your mods folder, find broken or outdated mods, and locate mod updates.
- When you download a mod, make sure you have ALL the requirements the mod needs, and make sure you understand how to use the mod. Most of the time, if the mod isn’t showing up, you’re missing something.
- Please turn off the loading pop up you get that tells you which script mods you have, this will slow down the game, sometimes it won’t open at all lol
- Having an organized mods folder will make your life 10 times easier! This will come in handy when you need to update a mod. Here’s how I personally organize mine:
- Yes, every time the mod gets updated you NEED to delete the old version. After you do this, and before launching the game, I ALWAYS delete localthumbcache.
- There are Discords, like the Dead Server Pool Discord, that help you figure out what’s breaking your game (or other issues).
- There’s no need to harass modders in the comments. You can do a little troubleshooting yourself!
- If you’re getting an LE, you can send it to the Server Deader Pool Discord. They can help. Or, if you know FOR SURE a certain mod is giving you an LE, check whether the modder has a discord server
- READ how the mod works. That way, you make sure you’re doing it right and that you have the requirements for the mod. Double check whether you have, for example, XML Injector, mood pack, etc.
- After you’ve done the first step and the issue persists, do 50/50. You may find the culprit.
- Stay up to date with your mods, I personally have joined Deaderserver pool discord which they have a channel that sends updates about what mods recently got updated, there’s also a list! Not ALL the mods get notified but most of them. Some modders announce their updated through patreon or other social medias, so make sure to follow them! I’ve seen TikTok videos sometimes whenever there’s a patch… please… don’t follow them lol it’s best to make sure yourself if the mod got updated yourself.
